2. Yasodara and Siddhatta
Yasodara naps. Siddhatta enters, plunks down in a chair. A yellow rose bud now adorns the vase. He picks it up, scrutinizes the rose. Yasodara stirs.
YASODARA
Did you enjoy the outing?
His eyes stay focused on the bud.
SIDDHATTA
It... expanded my horizons. Tell me, when I left there was a fully bloomed red rose. Every few days, we get new budding roses and the full ones are gone.
Siddhatta looks at Yasodara. Tears appear, slide down her cheek.
He puts the vase down, goes to her, wipes the tears.
SIDDHATTA
Are the full ones dead?
YASODARA
Your father told me not to --
Their eyes meet, she knows it's time.
YASODARA
Not yet, but soon.
SIDDHATTA
Is there a way the rose won't die?
They embrace.
YASODARA
I wish there was.
